After almost losing his daughter to the complexities of a heart condition, and then navigating the aftercare from a substantial 3rd degree burns injury she sustained at the same time, Richard found himself drawn to the funeral industry after being asked “what would you do if your daughter doesn’t make it?”

A diverse and accomplished background that spans education, risk management, and community engagement, Richard brings a rare depth of experience and empathy to his role as Operations Manager at Walter Carter Funerals, also utilising his Certificate in Event Management. Richard is the author of After The Worst Has Happened—a thoughtful exploration of grief and recovery, featured in The AustralianandConversations with Richard Fidler,praised for its insight and honesty.

His lifelong dedication to service extends beyond the funeral industry. As a certified Ethics Teacher, he volunteered his time to deliver philosophy-based ethics education to primary school students, fostering critical thinking and emotional intelligence in the next generation.

Richard’s passion for learning and teaching has taken him around the world, including time as a lecturer in Business Administration at Maharishi Vedic University in Cambodia. Earlier in his career, he also served as an IT Trainer in London, delivering corporate training programs across Europe.
