Community Service Program
Helping people work through loss and manage grief
Providing the help you need
Since 1999, the Walter Carter Funerals Community Service Program has helped hundreds of people through the grieving process. The program is designed to assist people through the shock, pain and anguish of losing a loved one.
Grief is the normal response to the loss of a loved one and can be an intense experience. Without an understanding of the feelings associated with grief, some people can become overwhelmed and scared about what is happening to them. Others try to deny their feelings and in doing so stifle their grief.
All grief is unique and the Community Service Program provides the support, knowledge and guidance that allows people to acknowledge and express pain, explore feelings, share thoughts, and learn and develop positive ways to cope with loss.
The Walter Carter Funerals Community Service Program offers:
- One-on-one support to our client families
- Free grief and bereavement seminars for the community
- Training seminars for the funeral industry, healthcare and other professionals
- Free quarterly email newsletter Expressions about coping with grief.
At Walter Carter Funerals, we understand that our commitment to our client families often doesn’t end with the completion of the funeral. We meet people at a very sad and vulnerable time, and we’re on-hand to offer care and support to family members in the weeks after the death of their loved one.
Approximately six weeks after the funeral, our Bereavement Care Coordinator will call the client family, with their permission. This is an opportunity to discuss feelings and provide further resources or referrals should they be required.
