Pricing you can trust

As a family owned and operated business, we understand the overwhelming burdens that confront a family when faced with the death of a loved one. For this reason, we price our services very competitively.

There are certain inclusions and certifications that are necessary for all funerals, such as the disposition of the body for burial or cremation. Some of these costs are fixed and others will vary. However, there are many, many more elements that differ from funeral to funeral.

Understanding your needs

Funerals serve an important purpose. Far from being outdated and unnecessary, funerals are an important ritual to help us acknowledge death, remember the person who has died and support each other.

The elements that comprise each funeral arrangement will inevitably vary according to the particular client family’s requirements and preferences. Equally, arrangements are often impacted by cultural and religious necessities.

Arranging a funeral involves a great deal of personal interaction. It relies on close collaboration between us, as funeral consultants, and you, as the client family. It’s through this close collaboration that you’ll gain a full understanding of the extent of our role and all the elements that comprise a funeral arrangement, including pricing. And, when it comes to pricing, we will fully explain all the factors impacting prices.

Frequently asked questions

Who is responsible for paying for a funeral?

If you arrange a funeral, you’re responsible for ensuring payment of the expense. This is why it’s best to first check where the money will be coming from and whether there will be enough to cover the relevant expenses.

Where there’s an estate, the funeral expenses may be paid from the deceased’s estate.

Sometimes banks will allow payment of the funeral expenses from the bank account of the deceased person before probate of the Will is granted.

Depending on individual circumstances, some funeral expenses may be covered by:

  • Life insurance benefits
  • Death benefits from Centrelink or Veterans Affairs
  • Pre-paid funeral plan, bond or insurance
  • Health fund benefits
  • Superannuation payout
  • Workers compensation.
What payment terms does Walter Carter Funerals offer?

Our payment terms vary according to the type of funeral:

  • Bespoke – A deposit is required prior to the funeral to cover third-party fees. The balance is then due within 14 days of the final invoice being issued.
  • Immediate – Full payment is required prior to the funeral.

Payment is accepted by electronic funds transfer, cheque, Visa or Mastercard.

We understand that funeral expenses are often unplanned and unexpected, and payment can potentially present difficulties. That’s why we encourage our client families to discuss any relevant financial circumstances with us during the planning stage. This means we can craft a funeral that meets preferences and does not result in any financial hardship.

How will my loved one be transported after death?

We ensure that your loved one is transported with care and dignity in fully-compliant and fit-for- purpose transfer vehicles. Our vehicles comply with standards set down by the Australian Funeral Directors Association.

Does Walter Carter Funerals have mortuary facilities?

The Walter Carter Funerals mortuaries and preparation facilities are located at Sutherland and Botany, and are staffed by our qualified professionals. Our facilities are fully-accredited and meet all the standards set down by New South Wales law to achieve the best possible service levels.

What cemeteries and crematoriums does Walter Carter Funerals use?

For bespoke arrangements, the cemetery or crematorium used is your decision.

You may choose a cemetery that is close to where you live or where other family members are buried. Equally, in the case of cremation, you may choose a crematorium that is near to the location of the funeral service or where ashes have previously been interred.

Whatever your choice, the team at Walter Carter Funerals can make arrangements.

The cemeteries and crematoriums we most frequently visit are:

  • Eastern Suburbs Memorial Park (administered by the Southern Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust)
  • Macquarie Park Cemetery and Crematorium (administered by the Northern Cemeteries Trust)
  • Waverley Cemetery (owned and operated by Waverley Council)
  • Bayside Crematorium (owned and operated by Olsens Funerals)

You are not limited to the above locations. We can travel to the cemetery or crematorium of your choice.

Our team are on hand to discuss the range of choices, features and pricing available at each of the above. We also encourage you to make your own independent enquiries.

In the case of immediate arrangements, the crematorium used (and the day and time of cremation) is at the discretion of Walter Carter Funerals.
