New location. Same service.

Since 1887, Walter Carter Funerals has been working from the same location at 302 Oxford Street in Bondi Junction. Now, after 130 years, we’ve made the decision to relocate.

The decision to relocate our family business has been a difficult one, but we’re confident that the time is right to move from a high-density area to a more suitable, convenient site within Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs. An application has now been made to operate from 249 Bronte Road, Waverley.

While our location will change, you have our promise that our level of service, range of facilities and commitment to the community will not change. We will continue to strive for excellence in everything we do.

To reassure our Waverley community

We’ve been caring for the local community since 1887

Walter Carter Funerals is the oldest independent funeral home in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs. The vast majority of our client families are locals and we’ve been serving them in a discrete, trusted and professional way for generations. Established by our namesake, Walter Carter, more than 130 years ago, the business has been handed down through the generations and the current CEO, Dale Maroney is a 5th generation Carter.

We’re a small, family-owned business

In an industry full of global conglomerates, we have always retained our independence, as well as a strong sense of family. This ensures the highest level of care and compassion for people going through one of the most difficult times of their life – losing a loved one.

We’re discrete and professional in our activities

We understand that many people find death and funerals confronting. That’s why the building renovations have been designed specifically to ensure that activities are always conducted ‘behind closed doors’. Walter Carter Funerals is a highly-respected business and, without exception, conducts all activities with the utmost discretion and professionalism.

We won’t be conducting funeral services at night

The on-site ceremony area will not be used for funeral services outside of normal business hours. The vast majority of funeral services we arrange will not be conducted on-site. In 2017, an average of only two funeral services were held on-site each week and the majority were attended by around 40 people.

We won’t be constantly operating at the premises 24/7

While our team is on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to respond to our client families in their time of need, the premises will generally only be open during normal business hours. Viewings occasionally occur outside these hours (on average 10 per year), while operational activities only occasionally occur before 8.30am or after 5.00pm Monday to Friday.

We won’t be garaging our fleet of vehicles on the premises

While hearses and funeral vehicles will be accessing the premises intermittently during business hours, most parking will be accommodated on-site and will not impact parking in the rear lane. Our fleet of vehicles will be located at another site outside the area that is appropriately zoned for such a facility.

We won’t have a mortuary on-site

A mortuary will not be located on the premises. Walter Carter Funerals’ mortuary will be located at another site outside the local area that is appropriately zoned for such a facility.
